Review
Turning a phrase sure sounds like a second-nature effort for the likes of Lynn Taylor. The raspy-throated vocalist/guitarist’s current offering is abundantly stocked with genre-savvy fare laced with ear-catching resolutions. Standing out among them is a shuffle-beat celebration of the Big Easy- “Carnival In Hell”, a Buddy Holly-esque ballad “When I Think About You” and a haunting tale in the classic country “story song” mold- “The Twilight Years of Florence and Ebenezer”.

Review
An artist living and working in the Natural State of Arkansas, guitarist and composer Jake Hertzog has come a long way since his 2009 solo album Chromatosphere, an album release on his That’s Out Records label, as well as 2013’s Throwback, which was Jake’s debut release on New York’s Zoho label.
Returning to the Zoho label, Jake’s 2025 solo album is actually a full-scale, orchestral sounding, jazz meets classical fusion album entitled Ozark Concerto. A huge project featuring multiple musicians combining both jazz and classical music textures, Ozark Concerto features Jake’s guitar sounds paired with Garrett Jones (bass), Chris Peters (drums) and Matt Nelson’s piano along with members of the Ozark Jazz Philharmonic conducted by Susumu Watanabe.
Premiered at the Fayetteville campus at the University of Arkansas in April of 2024, where Jake
Jae Sinnett Album: The Blur the Lines Project Label: Self-Release Genre(s): Fusion Posted By: Robert Silverstein

Review
Now that rock music classics, mostly from the 1960s and the early 1970s, are gaining more respect outside their respective circles, more and more jazz musicians are approaching those tracks with wild abandon. Case in point is the 2025 album release entitled The Blur The Lines Project by Virginia-based jazz fusion drummer extraordinaire Jae Sinnett.
Featuring six songs that most rock fans have known and loved for decades, The Blue The Lines Project features drummer / producer Jae Sinnett backed up by some gifted musicians including Ada Rovatti (sax), Allen Farnham (Hammond B-3 organ), Jason Cale (guitars) and Terry Burrell (bass).
Propelled by Sinnett’s on-point big beat, the entire album makes for a stirring listening experience. Putting an all-instrumental spin on tracks equally known for their lyrics is enterprising and The Blue The Lines Project makes for quite an
Daniel Garbin Album: Rising Label: Self-Release Genre(s): Fusion Posted By: Robert Silverstein

Review
Romanian born / NYC-based multi-instrumentalist Daniel Garbin takes jazz into some interesting new territory and other far-out realms on his 2025 album Rising. Inspired in his early years by the folk music of his native Transylvania city, Garbin combines the sounds of guitars with his expert sitar playing on an album that spotlights improvisation and keen melodic insights.
Moving to the US to further his up-and-coming music career, Garbin is concurrently teaching math and computer science at the Queensborough Community College in NYC.
Musically on Rising, Garbin’s band presents an impressive lineup, including saxophonist Scott Litroff, the piano playing of Camila Cortina Bello, the fretless electric bass of Eddy Khaimovich and the seasoned timekeeping of drummer Brian Woodruff.
Centered in mainstream contemporary jazz, Rising combines
Mitch Towne Album: Refuge Label: Cross Towne Genre(s): Contemporary Jazz Posted By: Robert Silverstein

Review
Hammond B-3 organ player Mitch Towne steps out on his own with Refuge, his debut album as a band-leader. Backing Towne are guitarist Tetsuya Nishiyama and drummer Jeffery Johnson.
The interplay between these three musicians gives the album a spontaneous magic. Although the B3 organ has been featured in many different jazz trios over many years, it was also a popular sound in late 1960s progressive rock bands like Procol Harum and The Nice.
In addition, the album has a nice bass sound, even without a bass player, as Towne plays the bass parts via foot pedals attached to the Hammond. Interestingly, Towne has worked with rock legends such as Buddy Miles while also gaining standing in the jazz world via playing with top artists like guitarist Eric Gales and horn legend Tom Scott.
Featuring 7 tracks and clocking in at 44-minutes, Refuge is a good example of Towne’s
